The inspiration for the care and management of trees was first set in motion in 1961 when our managing director, Steve Beimers, visited the Longford Estate in Wiltshire. Here, Bill Jarvies, the head forester, showed Steve around the forests and demonstrated the silvicultural systems in place. Bill was a returning Japanese P-O-W who had trained as a forester in Argyll after WW2.
Steve later joined the Forestry Commission in 1964 as a forestry officer and over a period of six years gained much experience through field work in Herefordshire and Devon and including a residential theory course at diploma level in the Forest of Dean. He later gained a BSc in Forestry at University College of North Wales, Bangor, which enabled him to use his skills and gain employment as a forestry officer with Northumberland Planning.
With this background, Steve set up Jesmond Tree Surgeons in 1979…
Jesmond Tree Surgeons (JTS) is underpinned by chartered status through membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters with CPD (continuous professional development) an ongoing commitment.
